Translating Interior Design Into Cinematic Storytelling
Julia Orlando is the creative force behind Maison Julia Orlando, a Montréal-based interior design and construction project management studio. With a thoughtful approach to every project, she combines her expertise in design and construction to create spaces that are not only beautiful but also highly functional. Julia describes her own philosophy perfectly: “Coming home to a place that is aesthetically beautiful, solidly built, and extremely functional calms me. A well-designed home has a positive daily impact in our lives.”
Tanya Rembacz, producer at Marrone Films, shares: “When Julia approached us to produce a film for her interior design studio, we were immediately inspired. We captured both photography and video of her home, creating a visual experience that not only showcases her creativity but invites viewers to feel the magic of each space.”
Through careful camera work and attention to detail, we brought Julia’s elegant interior design to life on film. Rick Marrone, DoP at Marrone Films, explains: “Setting up each shot to complement the design of the space is key. Our focus was on understanding Julia’s vision and translating it into a cinematic video. We stepped into her shoes to capture the space exactly as she imagined it.”
Rick’s perspective is shaped by years as Creative Director at Luxury Retreats and Airbnb’s luxury division. His approach to visual storytelling focuses on capturing the flow, light, and character of each space. “When filming, I aim to show how a home feels in motion, so viewers can experience it as if they were walking through it themselves,” Rick says.“The footage has to be clean and classy with straight lines, which keeps it timeless.”
“Every shot is intentional,” Rick explains. “We used sliders and gimbals to bring flow to each room, drone footage to capture sweeping views of the property, and a variety of camera lenses to create intimacy; highlighting textures, materials, and the subtle details that make each space unique.”
To complement the cinematic video, Marrone Films also captured professional photography of the home, including portraits for Julia’s website. Reflecting on the experience, Julia shares: “Working with Rick and his team was an absolute pleasure! They were organized, responsive, and meticulous on site to get the right pictures and footage for my project. I would highly recommend Marrone Films.”
